I like the Jackson signing however I sort of wish we had been pro active and signed Harris to a long term deal first. Then went out and signed some free agents. It’s always a good sign when you can take care of your best players first. Elway doesn’t have too many home grown vets. How many does he have under his belt? Miller? Wolfe? McManus? Who else??

Harris has another solid 4-5 years.

Which is exactly where I thought it would land...no way was he ever going to get the $15M he said he wanted.

    Good!
I was worried about this. We don't have much else back there right now. This helps.

Chris Harris Jr. on wanting to make more than Kareem Jackson: "I just wanted to be the highest-paid cornerback on the team. It had nothing to do with Kareem. I just thought I deserved to be the No. 1 corner on the team. Nothing against Kareem.'' #9sports

    Modest bump. Boom.

I get that some of you don't approve of gratuitous compensation, but I believe it matters and is money well spent for what it communicates to fans and players. For the integrity and vision you want your club to represent. Even if it's strictly a leverage play it made sense. But I think it is mainly a demand for respect and I approve of John's solution.

Didn't Jackson's contract make him the highest paid corner on the team?

Yes, hence the rework to bump CHJ slightly over him. Now Jackson is making 12 mil and CHJ is making 12.05 mil.

Not really. We'd get a third round comp pick for him. And we'd probably have gotten his best years of production out of him.

Unprofessional is a word that fits, as he's currently under contract and there is an entirely new coaching staff and he's not at Dove Valley preparing with the rest of the team.
That was an unprofessional way of getting a $5mm raise eh?

That seems amazingly petty to me.
