Default Rockies to retire Larry Walker's jersey on April 19

The Colorado Rockies will retire the jersey of outfielder Larry Walker on April 19, the team announced Friday.

Walker, the National League MVP in 1997, played 10 seasons with the Rockies, batting .334 with 258 home runs and 848 RBIs. His 17-year career also included stops in Montreal and St. Louis.

"I can't tell you how taken aback I am by this gesture," Walker said in a statement. "I am both thrilled and honored."

The only Rockies jersey I own is Larry’s. My favorite player by far. Great news!

One of the greatest right fielders to ever play (fielding). He was incredible at baiting players into outs which is just so rare from an outfielder.

The petty, yankee-hating part of me is happy that Jeter wasn't unanimous... But the logical part of me says you're doing it wrong if you left him off.

I think both MLB and NFL HOF election processes are so flawed that it's kind of taken the fun out of it for me -- but Larry was one of the reasons I wore 33 back in the day along with Patrick Roy... Happy for him.

As an AL and a Tiger fan, the idea that Larry Walker was not in the HOF was flat-out absurd. An injustice finally corrected

Did you hear his comment about it at the presser yesterday? His sense of humor is HOF worthy.

The whole having to pick which team's hat you wear for the MLB Hall of Fame thing is so stupid.

Why? The plaque shows the player in a baseball cap, what would you have it be, a bland MLB cap? A blank cap?

There doesn't need to be a hat at all I guess?
