For years, Larry (Top) and I corresponded weekly via email. On July 23rd, I received the following from him:

"Subject - Going into the hospital today

Doctors found a large mass around the pancreas. They don't yet know whether my lymphoma has spread or if it's the pancreas itself. They said I could be in there "a week, maybe two."

You can still email with me since I'm taking my laptop. My cell number below will be active, too.

Hope all is well with you."

After I received that, I kept sending emails, but heard nothing back. I knew that KCL also kept in touch with him on social media, so I sent her a PM asking if she had heard from him. She responded that she had not.

Finally, I received the following from Larry on October 24th:

    "Hi Carol,

I hope all has been well with you. This is my second attempt to get a letter off to you after trying to save one yesterday. For some reason, that one disappeared. This one won't be nearly as long, but I'll fill you in bit-by-bit in succeeding letters, I hope.

I'm not sure you're aware of my tips to the hospital. In fact, I have spent a total of about 10 weeks now in either the hospital of a skilled nursing facility. This is why you haven't heard from me -- I haven't been able to get out of bed.

It was in July that I fell ill, which they diagnosed as an abdominal bacterial infection, so they put me on antibiotics and sent me home. I was there about 20 minutes when I collapsed at my front door, and there I remained until the young man who lives on the other side of the drive came home and called for help for me. This time, the doctors determined to keep me for a while.

I was doing well until I fell and broke my hip. Fortunately, it was just a hairline fracture, and the surgery involved three screws to keep it from coming any further apart.

So that's it so far, regarding why you haven't heard from me. The doctors picture me being here for about another month to six weeks. I was told that if all goes well I should be able to leave in about as good of shape as I was before.

I'm going to let you go for now. My hip is hurting me, and I need to lie down for a bit.

    Cheers,

    -lb"

I responded back same day and let him know that both KCL and I were concerned as we had not heard from him.

He responded on October 29th -

    "
    Hi Carol,

I meant to get this off sooner, but all I've seemed to do is sleep.

You seem to be doing pretty well, and for that I'm glad. Thank you for your prayers. They mean more than you know.

I've been in a lot of pain lately. Most of it ranges from the right hip to the right knee.I assume it will heal sooner or later. Couldn't happen too soon.

    Talk later.

    -lb"

I sent a few emails to Larry, and heard from him on November 11th:

"I'm so grateful I have a friend down Denver way who reaches out with the attention I'm seeking.

I awoke not feeling overly well. Pains shot through my midsection. It was a bit hard to take. I'm not sure whether it's a touch of the flu or what. But the nurse gave me 10mg of oxycodone, and that helped. In fact I went over and did my physical therapy this afternon.

Well, it's bye week for the Broncos. Hopefully, they can get some of their boys back. They are a better team than what they have shown this year. The Chargers are next, and I think the Broncos can beat them if they put the minds to i.

    Take care. Talk atcha later.

    -lb"

I responded to that email, and sent a few more, but that is the last time I heard from Larry.

KCL let me know yesterday that Larry had passed. I wanted you all to know that he enjoyed being on BF very much, and considered many of you his friends.

To my friend Topscribe (Larry) - RIP, I know you are now pain free, and in a much better place.

If you don't mind me asking, what was Top's age?
