Default Kiszla: New CU football coach Mel Tucker has crazy, old-school idea of how to build Buffs into champs. Now get off his lawn.

BOULDER — How new coach Mel Tucker intends to make CU football a winner is so crazy it just might work.

“Our goal on defense is going to be 13 points or less,” Tucker told me Thursday. “Every game.”

    Say what?

Defense is dead in college football. Every team scores 30 in a game. Nobody makes stops. The minimum requirement to be a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2018 is three dozen touchdown passes. Walk to the fridge to grab a beer during a Pac-12 Conference game, and you might miss two lead changes.

During the past 15 years, the Buffaloes have had three winning seasons (2004, 2005, 2016) and fired four football coaches (Gary Barnett, Dan Hawkins, Jon Embree and Mike MacIntyre).

A coach who wants his defense to not give up points. How interesting.

Good luck with that in the Pac-12. I hope he does, but man.

Default Ty Evans flips from CU Buffs to N.C. State

Ty Evans often envisioned himself running behind Ralphie and throwing touchdown passes at Folsom Field.

So much of recruiting is about relationships, however, and when Evans' main ties to the University of Colorado were cut, the Palmer Ridge High School star had to re-evaluate his future.

On Monday night, just nine days before the start of the national signing period, Evans announced on Twitter that he has decommitted from Colorado and intends to sign with North Carolina State.
    AND

Evans is the fifth player to decommit from CU since head coach Mike MacIntyre was fired Nov. 18, and his decision leaves the Buffs without a quarterback pledge for the 2019 class with signing day around the corner.

Makes sense. So much of recruitment is about the guy who recruited you so when that guy is gone so is the trust of the young men committing to those schools.

Ty Evans flipped on Cu because they didn’t retain Roper, then he goes to NCST and his new QB Coach takes another job.

    Poor kid.

And these coaches want the kids to be loyal while making no money, but the coaches make millions.

The Buffs have got to recruit better in Colorado.

I would presume that they would be unchecked in Colorado?

Yeah, it’s time to let kids transfer, we’re wasting opportunities.

A couple of QB's are transferring from the bowl game participants today. Imagine letting them go where they want. I think it would lead to more NFL capapble QB's.
