Yes, and just to remind all of us.

Aaron Rodgers has not been to the SB since 2010, let alone win it. Despite BEING VERY PRODUCTIVE. That year they won it, their defense was number 2 in the NFL, giving up 15ppg. The Broncos in 2015 gave up 18.5, just for perspective. They paid him huge, the defense has been average since.

Drew Brees has been VERY PRODUCTIVE, yet he has not been to a SB since 2009. His contract is huge and their defenses have been horrific.

Peyton Manning had the best season ever and a pretty much average defense. Ranked 19th that year and very injured in the SB. They get smoked by the #1.defense in the NFL.

    Two years later, the Broncos.

That 2015 Broncos team was not flukish. It was actually quite typical of what wins it. A franchise expensive QB is really a myth as to what is really needed.

    We agree!

    Signed,

John Elway, Troy Aikman, Big Ben, Tom Brady.

Meanwhile, as much as most of us don't like Brady due solely to the cheating scandals, the fact is that he excepts a salary far below his market value & the Patriots continue to be the premier team of the league.

Yeah, speaking of Brady. His first 3 SB wins, had elite defenses. Shut down the greatest show on turf. He did not pass for 4000 yards or 30 TDs in any of those seasons.

Went 10 years without winning one. His contract caused the Pats to systematically get rid of players like Lawyer Milloy, Ty Law, Seymour, Vrabel, etc. In those 10 years, he was VERY PRODUCTIVE statistically. Yet the defenses in those years were actually average. Ranked in the 20s most seasons. Then, in 2014 he restructures his contract. They free up money, sign hey players for defense like Revis. They rank in the top 10 in defense for the first time in years. They win it on a defensive play. Btw, their defense in 2016 was ranked 1st as far as ppg. They win it again.

Russell Wilson two years ago, number 1 rated passer. They cannot keep their defense together. His contract along with key defensive players. Despite having top production from QB, the team has been getting worse and worse.

The list goes on and on.

Yeah, lets face it. Brady is not the real reason why most us don't like the Pats. At least us Bronco fans. It is that smug McDaniels walking the sideline and the whole "patriot way" shit.

Having that production for THAT PRICE, will make any team a perennial winner.

Most SB teams that have won have had top 10 defenses even with HOF QB's. Its a team effort and it mixes chemistry with staying healthy. The teams that have won with average QB's is very very small in comparison.

True enough. I do think many of those QBs get more credit than perhaps they deserve.

Like Eli Manning for instance. Is really that great? In 2007 when their NASCAR line shut down the most productive offense to that point to under 20 points, he was the 27th rated passer that year. I guess Manning should get the credit. I mean, he is a Manning.

We know Flacco is no elite QB.

Rothleisberger in his first season was certainly solid. He of course had a 22 rating in that SB they won against Seattle, and they did have the number one defense that year.

Everyone does credit Joe Montana for those 4 rings. He deserves it. However, if those defenses were average, no way do they get rings. They shut down the greatest offense to that point in 1984 to 16 points. Shut down the Bengals in that second SB. Had the greatest goal line stance ever in a SB in that first one against the Bengals. Shut down Elway to 10 points.

I would say the Steel curtain was the KEY FACTOR for Bradshaw's rings. He was good, and actually does not get enough credit. The curtain though.....

I mentioned those first 3 SBs by Brady and those elite defenses.

BTW, out of the top 10 most prolific PASSING OFFENSES, only ONE won the SB. That was the 99 Rams.

    Just saying.

And i would agree with you but you also cant deny that its not a coincidence that when franchises have consistent runs at the SB (whether they win them or not) its no surprise when they have a particular QB at the helm. Despite the fact that Rodgers and Brees have not been back to the SB really has less to do with them as it does the rest of their team or as you said their defenses. NO has consistently had really really bad defenses since Brees has been there.

Gruden loved Mack when he covered his games. Interesting he’d let Davis strong arm him into letting Mack go.
