Look at last night's game. Imagine if one of this two teams had a damn good D. They would look like the Saints. They're not just scoring a lot, they're holding their opponents down and kicking sand in their face.
As offenses proliferate the defense is that much more important. As the rules skew toward offense you should be able to get by with above average offense, but if you want to go anywhere you need a damn good D.
You can't attack a strength from the sideline.
The Rams have a pretty good defense - sometimes you just can't stop a god tier offense, and that's what you have now. The league has changed.
And the Saints defense has been gashed horribly this season. The Bucs went ham on them. The Rams scored 35. The Falcs got 37.
What's going to do the Saints in this season, unfortunately, is that their offense isn't threat diverse. They have a deadly run game, and some nice backs that can catch a pass, and a great WR. But they've been trying to find a legitimate second WR and a pass catching TE for awhile now. We'll see - they are a truly great team and I love me some Brees.
Defense the past few years has been proven to be underrated.
It was already skewing towards offense and the rule changes this season might have pushed it over the top.
We need to take a page out of last night's game - offense is sustainable if you have the legitimate QB. Defense isn't. You can maybe two cracks at the apple.
Offense.
Get the QB or get rid of the GM.
It's science.
