Denver Broncos third-year quarterback Paxton Lynch lost his No. 2 spot on the team’s depth chart to first-year quarterback Chad Kelly this week.

Kelly looked much better than Lynch in the team’s preseason opener, so he certainly deserved the promotion. Lynch doesn’t seem to be taking his demotion very well.

“He is upset,” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said after practice Tuesday, according to BSN Denver’s Ryan Koenigsberg. “He wants to know why and he’s got to play better. It’s as simple as that.

“It’s a competition, okay? It’s the league. Everyone is doing this, nobody is not playing their best players. It’s really more about Chad. Chad has competed and Chad’s played well. If Chad hadn’t played well, Paxton is still the No. 2. It’s really more about what Chad has done from the spring to now.”
