Default Cowboys release WR Dez Bryant

The Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Dez Bryant, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Friday.

"As an organization, we hold Dez Bryant in the highest regard, and we are grateful for his passion, spirit and contributions to this team for the past eight years," Jones said in a statement. "He will always be a valued member of our family."

Bryant was informed of his release after arriving at The Star, the team's headquarters in Frisco, Texas. A source said Bryant, who met with Jones, was not offered a pay cut.

The market just dropped for any trade involving OBJ. I'm betting Dez signs with the Patriots. Randy Moss will tell him it will be the best year of his life.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Cowboys had about 1.7 million in cap room and need about 7 million to pay their rookies. They had to cut somebody. It was further complicated by having about 14.5 million in dead money (not 22.5 million after cutting Dez). They had almost no choice in terms of cap. It was cut Dez, or create some cap magic by shoving even more of someone's '18 cap number into future years, and likely having dead money down the road.

One thing Elway has done well so far is avoid the trap of trying to win today by creating contracts that are likely to saddle the Broncos with tons of dead money. The Broncos only have about 2.5 million in dead money this year, and 2 million is from Stephenson and Talib.

Didn't Dez and Talib get into it once? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I wouldn't be shocked to see him stay in the NFC East

Judging by his twitter response i think he stays in the NFC, maybe goes to Philly or LA Rams.

The Rams seem to be on a buying binge. I wouldn't be surprised if they pick him up at a good price.

Philly is an interesting option too - aren't they in the same division as Dallas?
