Thread: OL

    Default OL

I'd like Denver to draft one of these two guys:

    James Daniels
    Will Hernadez

It might require them to trade back into the first but, if so, they should do it.

I'd also like to see Denver commit to drafting offensive line in the first 3 rounds every year.

Drafting OL a few years in a row worked for Dallas. Only problem they face as a result is now they have to pay all of them. Til they get Frederick and Martin locked up long term, they'll be pushing 50 mil invested in just the line.

That's why I say it should be addressed every year.

Sure...but it cant be via the route that Dallas took where it happened every year early. Now they'll end up with a revolving door on the line because as these guys get to their 5th year, their cost is going to go way up. Gotta find gems in later rounds (Paradis), combined with high picks (Bolles).

The idea is that you always have depth and competition and you can also minimize paying free agents. At some point you'd have to make decisions on who to let go and who to keep but you''d at least have the flexibility if you have quality depth.

Also by growing your own offensive line, after a few years, you'd have more flexibility in red shirting rookies, if appropriate You'd also have more cohesion from year to year. One of the problems in the NFL is the CBA cuts into the time required to develop good offensive line play. If guys are brought along in house, it should make things better.

But the second contract is based on actual performance. Doesn't matter where we picked em. If they ball, they get paid.

Every team needs their cheap players to outplay their deals. Some teams can manage it longer than others. Some are like Seattle and have that very small window.

The line means nothing without a franchise QB. Ask Dallas about Dak, or the Raiders about their line when Carr went down, or Cleveland when they had a great line, or the Titans with Mariota underperforming, etc.
