Default Pirates trade 5-time All-Star Andrew McCutchen to Giants

The Pittsburgh Pirates took a definitive step in their rebuild Monday, trading former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen to the San Francisco Giants.

The deal marks the end of an era for the Pirates, who dealt ace Gerrit Cole to Houston two days ago but signaled the start of their rebuild with the trade of McCutchen, one of the franchise's most accomplished and popular players.

The five-time All-Star outfielder tweeted a goodbye to Pittsburgh.

He gets to go to a first rate organization while leaving behind a legacy of strong performance and love from the fans. I'm happy for him.

OMG, the Giants now have both Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen!

They are now guaranteed to win the 2013 World Series Championship!
