coach is right, ain't happenin'. . . we blew most of our wad on keenum-- he is our big ticket signing this year, like it or not. . . we can still free up more cap space if we really want to, but even if we do i think we keep a chunk to roll over to the following year, as that's typically what we do. . . we'll certainly still be active, because we have a ton of holes, and we know john likes to fill as many of them as possible before the draft, even if a lot of the fill-ins are just low level vets. . . maybe we still go after juwann james if the dolphins end up cutting him, and i still expect us to sign a TE-- i don't think we're going to see any more "big" names, though. . .

Keenum is reportedly going to be paid $18mil per year, and Cousins will be signing for $28mil per year ALL guaranteed? We will see how this will play out, but I am thinking the Vikings will be regretting that move, big time. That, is a lot of money.
Is $18mil blowing a wad? If that is, then how would this team have been able to afford $28mil per year?
Last year may have been an outlier year with Keenum. Distinct possibility with that. However, if this team can upgrade that OL, and solve the actual problem that really cost this team last year, it can turn things around.
Just to reiterate, the actual major discrepancy between the 2015 team, and the 2017 teams were not the offenses. They were actually very similar as far as ranking. The 2015 offense was ranked 16th in the NFL, while the 2017 offense was ranked 17th. The major difference was 2017 inability to generate QB pressures, which led to far less turnovers.
Did that reflect in Woods scheming as opposed to Wade Philips? Probably, but then again that could reflect in the talent. I am personally not sold on Shane Ray. If the Broncos through the draft and FA can improve on QB pressures AND finally upgrade the OL, Keenum can win. He has proven that.
Just to reiterate, you have less of a chance to rush the passer when you're trailing. The 2015 team wasn't trailing in ball games. But you can't rely on turnovers and short fields like that team did year in and year out. You must, absolutely must, have a good quarterback to repeatedly get leads early. The problem was in no way one of the top-rated defenses. No way in hell was it the defense.
