Should BF have the http thing or not?
Should BF have the http thing or not?
It's not currently https. I've looked into what it will take to do it, but haven't gotten around to it at this point. Many forums, as they aren't commerce platforms, aren't https. At some point I will try and switch it over, as that's what everything is going to.
"We saw it…. the hussars let loose their horses. God, what power! They ran through the smoke and the sound was like that of a thousand blacksmiths beating with a thousand hammers
They rush on to the Swedes! They crash into the Swedish riters…. Overwhelm them! They crash into the second regiment - Overwhelmed! Resistance collapses, dissolves, they move forward as easily as if they were parading on a grand boulevard
Cool thanks, I have just never noticed it before, wasn't sure if I was getting davvi'd
I know, but last time I looked there were a few oddities with this version of vBulletin. I actually attempted to convert over to https about six or so months ago (might have been closer to a year) and the CSS was broken and the site was not functioning (rendering) properly.
I then got tied up and never had a chance to troubleshoot and then honestly forgot about it. That go around I did it in the middle of the site on the live site figuring it wouldn't interrupt much. But, it looks like I'm going to have to setup a test install on a different server, probably using a self signed cert on the test server. Just haven't gotten around to doing it.
I'll try and carve out some time to play around with it.
Do we really need it?
Not really, the only thing vulnerable are passwords from a man-in-the-middle, which isn't very common, nor is the site particularly valuable to exploit in such a way. Beyond that, this is basically a public forum, so it's all available anyway (with the exception of opt in forums, but nothing exactly classified there either).
Does your host not offer shared SSL? Won't get the green bar validated but it will be secure.
You don't even need to buy a ssl.
Just generate a certificate on the machine and push the site through a cdn and use their ssl. All it does is validate that there is a certificate installed on your machine. Won't be a green bar...but it will be just as secure and hell of a lot cheaper.
I have used cloudflare for this.
Dave, all the evidence of your hooker murdering is already out there for the world to see. Nothing can save you now!
I think we have a failure to communicate. The CSS is breaking when I switch to https. My guess is that some things are referencing http://broncosforums.com and not using relative pathing as it should be.
ah ok
