    Yes, "online persona". Good cover!

I'm still wondering why this would be needed.

If you click one of the ads and purchase something, does your login here follow you to that site? That'd be the only reason to even consider taking on a headache like this.

Nope, there is no following with login info like that. Clicking on an advert might track where you came from, but not your login info.

There's just no reason for it then, IMO.

Just to clarify my position, i know nothing about https - i am not saying we should have it

On my new laptop i noticed it said "not secure" and i was not sure if this was just my laptop or if it was the norm - so i asked the question

Yeah, no worries. It's a fair question. HTTPS is just a way of encrypting communication on the web. That would really only be important on a public forum for login info. So while it's probably a good idea to encrypt the login info, it's probably not the end of the world that it isn't encrypted. Techncially someone sniffing packets between you and the broncosforums server could see your login info in clear text. That's not ideal, but even if hacked, what has the hacker gained? The login info to a public forum that anyone can sign up for? It's a bit more problematic, however, if you use the same password (and email) for everything you log into though (don't do that).

I would just add the exception to you browser for this site so you don't get bugged about it. I'm sure at some point Tned will install certs and this will go away.
