Default Another crazy idea that we can discuss. Eli pretty done in BY right?

Assuming this team is going to get a nice pick, and instead of wasting it on what I think are 3 very questionable QBs, how about Eli Manning. Broncos solidify the OL through FA and the draft.

    How, about that?

Mind you, I think Eli Manning has been a rather overrated QB, but I think if he has motivation he can still get it done. What if they can get 3 or 4 years out of him?

Couldn't that happen? Would we want that?

I'd do it. I'm ok with short term fixes since we keep whiffing on long term ones. Let's play to Elway's strength.

PFM worked pretty good, I’d say Eli has more left in his tank.

Eli is not as good as Peyton for starters. Secondly, Denver still needs to prove they can actually build a team and develop the future at Qb. Sure, we can wait for every aging QB to get old (Brees, Rodgers, Brady) and try to acquire them for a run but thats a lazy way to success. I want to build a QB who can be the face of the franchise, not a merc for hire.

We all want that but you can try (and should always be trying) to find that face of the franchise or you can do both; sign Eli/Brees/Smith while you find that face of the franchise.

Considering how hard it is to find that QB, I’m fine with the latter.

Not when you are strapped when it comes to the cap. Denver doesnt have the luxury in that department like some other teams.

Normally I would agree with this. When is the last time a long term fix worked with QB? Literally, John Elway. That is it.

Many people did not like Plummer. I thought he was ideal for the west coast offense. Whatever.....

Broncos sure have a horrific track record for drafting QBs. In fact there has never been a QB actually drafted by the Broncos that worked out..... Not kidding. Name one if there was one.

Could we stomach another wasted 1st rounder on an unproven QB?

If the prospect is good enough and not a project. Yes.

They’ll be fairly healthy again this year with no core player to extend.

Plus they’re going to dump Talib and save $11M.

Common sense says Eli Manning goes to Jacksonville if given the choice, the dots connect too good.

Not to mention that the cap is projected to increase by another 11M in 2018.

    Conclusion

This is a lot of information to absorb, but knowing the basics will help you better understand what goes into salary cap management. You may use the projected cap space of $23.4M as a starting point, along with the expected $11.4M in carryover, and the list of pending free agents to get an idea about where to start.
I will talk more about players who are likely to be cut or traded, and what to do about pending free agents in future articles. For those who wish to learn more about contracts, free agency and the salary cap, I recommend visiting Over The Cap.

That’s good news, I was going by OTC projection which doesn’t account for that yet.

They have $24M atm, with another $11M rollover from this years cap ... $11M-ish each from Talib and increase.

Edit, I looks like OTC already calculates the ‘17 rollover, so that $24M includes roll over.
