Just saw Rich Cognito complain (basically making excuses) about how bad it is that they have to play on a Thursday. I get it, it is a little tougher. Oh, what is that I hear? A bunch of Lions and Cowboys players long retired who played every Thanksgiving their entire career crying over every team needing to play ONE Thursday game a year.
Personally, I would not mind if they did away with it, but then how fair would it be and fair has it been that only THOSE TWO TEAMS every year played on a Thursday? I do not recall Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith or Roger Staubach giving that much grief about it. Certainly did not keep the Cowboys from being successful.
Also, there is no study that shows that players are injured at a higher rate on a Thursday than other days. In fact having every team play at least ONE Thursday game is actually more fair. Technically, it was UNFAIR that only TWO TEAMS were committed to that every year.
Don't NHL players have 82 game seasons? They play 3 times a week for 6 months and they do not go out of the game when the offense or defense is on the ice. They all play both ways. Plus, those NFL teams then have 10 days in row off. Right?
Just another example of how media hype affects the psyche of humans.
