Default 'Multiple parties down' after shooting at Thornton Walmart: Police

THORNTON - Police said multiple parties are down after a shooting at a Walmart in Thornton Wednesday evening, but have not offered more details.

A report of multiple shots fired came out before 6:30 p.m. at the Grant Street Walmart location, says Officer Avila with the Thornton Police Department.

    Thornton PD tweeted out,

"Shooting just occurred at Walmart, 9900 Grant St, multiple parties down. Please stay away from the area."

Two men dead, a woman taken to the hospital. It seems kind of odd that the police had
on the ground what one person described as a shooter but no one's in custody at this
    point.

First hand accounts, or eyewitnesses, are generally very unreliable TBH. I'm sure police had someone on the ground, maybe even someone in custody for questioning, etc, but the person saying it was a shooter was most likely wrong.

Default Thornton police arrest Walmart shooting suspect who allegedly killed 3

Thornton police have arrested a 47-year-old suspect in the apparently random Walmart shooting in which a man almost casually shot two men and a woman, killing them, before turning around and walking out of the store Wednesday night.

Scott Ostrem, 47, was arrested at around 8 a.m. Thursday near 72nd Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

He had been seen Wednesday night driving a red 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage with Colorado license plate number 882TQB. He was stopped on the street Thursday morning while driving that vehicle.

“He is armed and dangerous,” Thornton police spokesman Victor Avila said early Thursday.

According to several witnesses the 6:10 p.m. shooting at the Walmart Supercenter, 9901 Grant St., appeared to be random, Avila said.

“He walked in very nonchalantly with his hands in the pockets, raised a weapon and began shooting. Then he turns around and walks out of the store,” Avila said. “From what we have right now it appears to be random. It’s a crazy world we live in.”
