Draft
1st round— Cooper Dejean CB
2nd round— Jack Sawyer OLB
3rd round— Will Shipley RB
4th round— Ricky Pearsall WR
5th round— Ladd McKonkey WR
6th round— Cash Jones RB
7th round— Carson Steele RB
Butt isn't coming back this year, they have announced that they are not bringing him back off IR. They were depending on Derby but he isn't doing anything. In fairness the OL sucks so hard that they have to use their TEs as extra blockers so they aren't in the pattern a lot of the time.
Sloter wasn't even as good a prospect as Chad Kelly or he would still be on the roster. So, DT88 is right and Jaded is wrong.

Jaded: "Sloter was the best QB on the roster."
Obviously Trevor was the best QB on the roster. THAT is the problem. He sucks and yet all the others suck worse. It's just idiotic to think that some 7th round QB will ever work out. So, he looked good against vanilla defenses in the pre-season.
SO DID TREVOR! The regular season is a very different animal: they actually play defense in the regular season. They try to game-plan to stop what you do well, and force you to do what you can't do well.
In short, other teams try and take advantage of your weakness.
Ex: Teams know that the Broncos can't defend against RBs and TEs catching passes over the middle. Their ILBs suck at such coverage. So, they run plays that use their TEs and RBs catching passes.
Well, other teams did that with Trevor. Kyle Sloter was just a guy. He will always be "just a guy". It doesn't matter what he looked like a few meaningless pre-season games.
DO you know why they cut him? He sucked in practices against the #1s. That's why.
Only the fans didn't get to SEE those practices, because they were closed to the media. No point developing a guy who is just a guy when they have a first round pick who is just a guy already!
Jaded's problem is that he somehow thinks somebody can develop Kyle Sloter. And he will probably continue to believe that for a couple of years until Kyle Sloter runs out of time and becomes a permanent backup, or is out of the league.
By then he will have moved on and forgotten that he ever spouted such nonsense on these boards.
Because DT88 is right about this: 7th round QBs are not worth developing - unless you are developing them to be backups. The entire history of the NFL confirms this. 7th rounders are the longest of long-shots. THey almost never make it, so there's no point expecting it.
ShaneFalco is spreading the same Sloter nonsense as well. "He looked great in meaningless pre-season games! Woot Woot!" Well, so what?

As much as it makes be want to chug a bottle of draino agreeing with yash, Sloter was not the best QB on our roster. Yet another in the long list of guys people become infatuated about because they were undrafted and looked decent in a couple of preseason games against 4th stringers playing a base vanilla defense.
Do fans really think the coaches and Elway and the scouting department were all morons and Kyle Sloter is really going to become an NFL star some day?
To believe that you have to also believe every other NFL scouting department is also dumber than a big bag of rocks because none of them wanted Sloter either. Minnesota decided to pick the guy up off waivers after Denver took a chance on him and he put out some decent tape in the pre-season. MN decided they might conceivably get some use out of him. But, they have no plans to make him a starter anytime soon. And he probably never will be a Franchise QB with them.
That is just not what happens to 7th round QB draft picks very often. NFL teams just do not highly value those players. And they tend not to stick around for long. They get one shot maybe to prove themselves in real NFL games, and they have to show a TON quickly because management is always looking past them to the next great QB prospect.
I don't think we have to worry much that Elway was wrong and that Kyle Sloter is destined for NFL greatness.
No, but we also aren't in the same line of thinking as you that the staff is infallible. There have been dozens of players that weren't immediately given but people on this very boards could see they could play.
Also, multiple teams wanted Sloter, Minnesota offered him the most money and at the time his playing chances were better there.
His chances of sticking around were better there because of all the QB injuries the Vikings had suffered, starting with Teddy Bridgewater. Now they are going back and forth about whether Case Keenum is going to continue to start while Bridgewater recovers.
Notice that nobody in MN is talking about what a great thing it is they picked up Kyle Sloter to be #3 guy on the depth chart and run the scout team for a season. He's barely an afterthought there. He's MUCH more talked about here on Broncos boards than he is on Vikings fan boards!
