You really think the cheating had any impact on McMoron's record? He just cheated because that was the Patriot way, not because it really gave him that much of an advantage. His attitude was "why not cheat? We always cheated in New England and almost always got away with it, so it's not even an issue."
When the coach sucks and is getting fired, the players might say all the right things in public, but they are calling their agents asking about what teams might be interested in them for next season. "Get me out of here!" Guys start playing for themselves, to create some highlights for their agent to promote them to new teams, and to avoid injury so they maximize their free market value.
The goal is no longer winning, and doing whatever it takes to win, and playing for your teammates, it's looking good on tape.
