Also, let's stop acting like Klay Thompson is some guy who would be taking his team to the finals. He disappears offensively at least one series per playoffs. He's a really good player, but he's not good enough to be the best player on a championship team.

Default Raptors acquire Spurs' Kawhi Leonard for DeMar DeRozan

The San Antonio Spurs have traded Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick, the Spurs announced Wednesday.

Toronto's first-round pick to San Antonio is a protected 1-20 selection, a source told ESPN. After one year, it becomes two second-round picks.

Toronto and San Antonio have been talking about the trade for two weeks, and several incarnations of packages have been discussed, league sources said. Sources close to DeRozan told ESPN's Chris Haynes that DeRozan met with Toronto officials in Las Vegas during summer league and believed that he would not be traded.

In a story posted on his Instagram page Wednesday morning, DeRozan wrote, "Be told one thing & the outcome another. Can't trust em. Ain't no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing... Soon you'll understand... Don't disturb..."

Default Without Kawhi Leonard, Spurs fast forward into uncertain future

SAN ANTONIO -- Privately, San Antonio Spurs officials readily admit they're not blameless in this fiasco.

But the club's pained decision to finally acquiesce to Kawhi Leonard's trade demand on Wednesday plunged the franchise deeper into the depths of a transitional period that it has long worked to stay ahead of.

Even before San Antonio moved Leonard (and Danny Green) to Toronto for a trade package involving DeMar DeRozan, several signs indicated the Spurs' 21-year run of consecutive postseasons could be in jeopardy. Spurs chairman and co-chief executive officer Julianna Hawn Holt filed for divorce from former chairman and CEO Peter Holt last December, though she told a local TV station that "the franchise is safe" and wouldn't be put up for sale. Franchise stalwart Tim Duncan, who is widely credited for helping to create the club's culture of selflessness, retired in 2016. Longtime point guard Tony Parker signed with the Charlotte Hornets this offseason. And uncertainty abounds regarding the future of guard Manu Ginobili, as well as coach Gregg Popovich.

My Spurs had a great run. It had to end eventually. Pop retiring will be a much bigger blow than losing Kawhi

Honestly, you guys got an amazing haul for him. Usually when an all-NBA player is demanding out, especially one who only has one year left on his contact, a team is only going to get pennies on the dollar for him. The Spurs got a second team all-NBA player in return with 3 years left on his contract.

For a guy who made it pretty clear he was never playing for the Spurs again, they hit a home run getting what they got for him.
