It means the site isn't running https. https used to only be used for banking, shopping, etc., but in the last year or two, more and more sites have switched their entire site over to it. A lot of forums, like Orangemane and other non football forums aren't https, but I do think it would be good. I tried to implement it a few months ago, but it wasn't working and is going to take some work to implement.

I'm going to try and get it going in the near future.

In essence, it means if someone between you and the server are listening in, then they can see your password. It's the same way that ANY email you send is plain text and anyone between you and the recipient and any admin on the email server at both ends, can view your email contents. It's why you should never, ever, ever, never, put anything sensitive in emails.

It's giving that error because you are accessing the site via HTTP instead of HTTPS. I'm not sure the site fully supports HTTPS, but yeah, it's not a great thing for security.

edit; Tned's explanation was much more thorough, didn't see it until after posting.

Hmm... I doubt it. I'm betting that the site has some protection against too many unauthorized attempts locking accounts out.. bruteforce is very rarely used nowadays since there's easy and ubiquitous ways of protecting against it.

I paid for the SSL cert a few months ago, but the forum doesn't display right when you go to the https version. I'll try and troubleshoot it in the coming weeks.

Ok, I have no idea why that screams bruteforce. Bruteforce is really messy, leaves a really obvious trail, is extremely inefficient, and is fairly easily protected against. But I don't really know, so I won't argue either.

It's just as likely that the password was intercepted because no encryption.
