Thread: Greetings and salutations

    Thumbs up Greetings and salutations

I'd just like to make a quick intro before delving into the forum. Quick summary about me? Well I'm a thirty-something guy born and raised in the UK but have been an avid Broncos follower since 1996 due to my dad playing the sport at an amateur level over here and gaining a subsequent interest - ironically his allegiance is of a fouler, silver-and-black variety which makes for some interesting clashes twice a year!

Although I am a Brit I am not the ones you'll see portrayed in US shows (spit spot old chap oh I say old bean yada yada). I'm from northern England which is a much nicer part of the country.

As far as my Broncos CV goes I used to stay up as a kid watching the games with my dad (the games usually being on around 9pm our time) and of course he would have me watching and soon being bored by the dreariness of Jeff Hostetler's Oakland so I decided to pick my own team. Having watched the league for a season as a neutral I felt repeatedly drawn towards the likes of Elway, TD, Sharpe, McCaffrey and defensive legends like Atwater, Braxton, Romanowski etc.

Believe it or not the game that sealed it for me was the huge playoff upset against Jacksonville after going 13-3 with the #1 seed. I was only 10 at the time but I already felt a real sense of injustice - it was only by sheer luck that I got on board just before the Super Bowl wins but it didn't matter, I've been hooked ever since then and I'm stuck through thick and thin.

Enough of me rambling on anyway, hope to make this my home for this season and many more!

Thanks Joe, Daves are generally untrustworthy folks I find

Bolton Wanderers are my team over here, not sure if many will know of them but recently retired Stuart Holden came from this side of the water and is one of my favourite players of recent years.

Welcome. Anyone who became a fan in response to the Jacksonville loss is probably legit. I was 23 at the time and had lived through 4 SB losses. I was physically ill after that game. I was afraid they had squandered their best chance to win a SuperBowl with Elway.

It still makes me sick. They should have won the SuperBowl that year, and if they had, history shows the potential for 3 in a row. Of course, without that loss, and the urgency it created maybe they don't win either of the next two.
