Default NFL to have 21-24 full time officials

Per sources, the NFLRA has approved a plan to implement 21-24 full-time officials. The process of selecting them will begin immediately.

Full-time officials will come from current roster of 124. Each of the 7 field positions will be represented. No more than 5 from any 1 spot.

Also, and this is important -- Full-time officials will be able to have outside employment. It's just that this will be their full-time job.

So, let me guess, someone like Hochuli that's a full time attorney and part time ref, will now become a full time ref and part time attorney, but still work the same hours at each?

On the contrary, I'm cautiously optimistic this means at least some refs will now do the same thing as the other pros in PROFESSIONAL football: Spend the lions share of their time obtaining and maintaining career proficiency. Y'know, as opposed to cramming that attempt into whatever time's left over after whatever each of them does to feed and house their family, spending time with that family and sleeping. I don't question their commitment (hardly!) only their human limitations.

We have a multi-billion dollar business regulated essentially by hobbyists: I'm surprised people are surprised they don't do a better "job" of it.
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. Jaded

About damn time. Even if this isn't the perfect solution to the part-time refs it's a start.
