Our solution is a chore chart where he can earn x amount of minutes for chores. 45 minutes for mowing the lawn, 10 minutes for feeding the dogs daily, etc. Works really well so far. He's eight and does his own laundry because of it. You need to know your kids currency, and right now for him it's video games. I feel bad because i used to waste hours playing games when I was his age, but only at night. I was too busy during the day with bikes and friends but when games got better it was easy to forgo exercise for them. Once he earns his time it's his time to use how he sees fit but only Friday through Sunday. It will change when he gets older but it works for now.
