Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata. This has always so mesmerized me.

I was listening to some Beethoven sonatas earlier today, and then this one (played by Richter, he's my guy).

For me, he's the best to touch the keys, better even than Horowitz or Rubinstein.

Sound quality is poor, but video gives an interesting snapshot into Soviet culture.

I guess this might fall into at least a peripheral niche of the classical genre. It is "Kol Nidrei,"
a Jewish hymn sung just before the opening of the ceremony on Yom Kippur (Day of
Atonement). It has a stunning history, which I won't go into here.

The beautiful voice is that of Neil Diamond. I originally heard him sing it during the movie
"The Jazz Singer." I have never gotten tired of hearing it.

In some ways this is my favorite music of all time. As in the best that man can do.

I don't know how you rank such things. It has brought me to tears more than any other piece of music, and stirred forth such emotion that no other music has.

Q: What's brown and sitting on the piano bench?

    A: Beethoven's last movement
