Thread: Chargers rookie WR Mike Williams might need season ending back surgery

The Los Angeles Chargers are still hoping to avoid it, but first-round pick Mike Williams might need back surgery on his herniated disk that would end his rookie season, league sources tell ESPN.

Williams recently received a second epidural on his herniated disk in a last-ditch effort to have him ready at some time during training camp, though the Chargers are preparing as if he will not be ready by that time, per sources.

The Chargers remain uncertain about when Williams initially injured his back, but one source said it's possible it was injured at the combine and during his pro day, but he did a good enough job masking it so that teams would not know and his draft stock would not be impacted.

The Chargers picked Williams with the seventh overall pick, and he showed up in Los Angeles with a bad back.

Unless he signed an official statement that he was in perfect health at the time, I don't think they have any legal recourse.

Not only does it hurt them this season, but now their top prospects are behind development for years to come.

Speaking of Forrest, they did just lose Forrest Lamp (their 2nd rnd pick) to season ACL.

Knock on wood.......

That's just not his style. He's a loyal guy. I think he's a complete and utter douchebag but he does appear to be a good person under what we as an opposing team's fans see.

I know that he's loyal, and I know that his family is well situated where they are, but sheesh. The guy is probably a top ten QB in the league still and rots as a Charger.

He's getting paid 21 million a year to live in one of the nicest cities in the country, live in some of the best weather we have to offer, and only have to play 16 games a year, no playoffs necessary. Sounds like a good gig to me.

He can still come to Denver. I hate that mother trucker with a passion, but I would probably love him if he played for us. Plus he loves our stadium!
