Default Chiefs fire GM John Dorsey

Well, this was a surprise. As much as I hate to admit it, that organization has been pretty consistent for the last few years, since Dorsey took over. But they extend Reid and then fire Dorsey now? Weird.

The Kansas City Chiefs and general manager John Dorsey agreed to part ways on Thursday, Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt announced.

"I notified John that we would not be extending his contract beyond the 2017 season, and after consideration, we felt it was in his best interests and the best interests of the team to part ways now," Hunt said. "This decision, while a difficult one, allows John to pursue other opportunities as we continue our preparations for the upcoming season and the seasons to come. My family and I sincerely appreciate John's work over the last four-and-a-half years, and we wish him nothing but the best in the future."

The news came just minutes after the organization announced coach Andy Reid signed a contract extension.

Dorsey (along with Andy Reid) took over a 2-14 team and they’ve gone 43-21 since. Bizarre to think he wouldn’t get an extension.

Hard to believe the Chiefs were planning this for a while, given that they let Chris Ballard leave for the Colts GM job in January.

The timing of the Dorsey news is just stunning. Teams don't fire GMs in June, it just doesn't happen.

#Chiefs fired John Dorsey. Haven't been this blown away by a move in my 26 years in the NFL. WOW!

    Andy Reid?

Didn't he have GM powers in Philadelphia?

So Andy Reid's ego is more important then Chiefs' success.

Wow. The first victim of the Patrick Mahomes Era.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

I'd almost feel bad for them if I didn't dislike them so much... They are like 1-2 players away from being a Super Bowl contender - and then they take a project rookie QB in the 1st round and now this...

It sure feels like Reid won out in a power play and now he's gonna perpetuate more mediocrity as is his specialty.

I think the Chiefs are a better overall team than the Raiders right now - but it looks like they're going to mismanage things as is the franchise's specialty.

If Dorsey had prettier eyes I'd hate this move.

I think the Raiders are better & Carr's injury cost them the division & possibly a play-off win. I definitely agree with you that the Chiefs are going to regret this decision.
