    Default RIP Adam West

The original Batman to "older" folks, remembered by younger people as Mayor West in "Family Guy", Adam West passed away at age 88 after a short battle with leukemia. I definitely remember the original Batman, on reruns, when I was a kid. Even though it was an old show then it was still watched and still a good show. I also enjoyed his recent work on Family Guy. He lived a long life and presented a large body of work, from westerns, the three stooges, Batman, etc, he worked on TV and in movies every decade since the 50s.

    RIP Mr. West.

Batman was totally different back then. It promoted character and Integrity. Batman would often have little speeches about the poor character of his enemies. My 11 year old has seen them all.

The 1966 Batman movie is the best Batman movie.

His is the voice I always wished I had.

Interesting enough about the tv show is that it was meant as a summer replacement for ABC but the producers decided that if it was to have any success on mainstream tv, they were going to have to play it as camp, with puns and double entendres, and with Batman and Robin as creatures of moral virtue - which is a good thing given how little room there was under those costumes for any impure thoughts.

For a couple of years, it was a tv smash as more celebs vied to have cameo roles on the show and ABC capitalizing on its success by scheduling two shows a week rather than just one.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

9 a.m Saturday morning weekly episodes were the highlight of the week growing up in the 70s.

Yes, it's true: Adam West and Frank Gorshin got kicked out of a Hollywood orgy for insisting on staying in-character as Batman and Riddler.

Just bought the complete 60's Batman series last Christmas and it is a common sound in my house to hear that opening theme music on the weekends between me and my son rewatching them constantly. He was a truly humble and funny man from what I have read and heard from him, and he lacked the cynicism that so many people in his profession have which was refreshing.

EDIT: One of the best scenes on TV. EVER.

The bomb scene is my favorite from the movie.
