Thread: I wonder...

A local morning radio guy does a segment on Fridays where people can call into the show with these types of questions. It's entertaining, and makes you think. So, I thought I'd make a thread as well.

If a person is born deaf, do their dreams include sound?

If a person is born blind, do their dreams include images?

I know we have a deaf person on the board - I'd like to hear his response. There's a bunch of "I wonder" topics. Enjoy!

Good question.

Unfortunately, sounds don't appear in my dreams.

If there's sudden burst of loud sound that I can feel, like a door slamming nearby or a heavy object being dropped nearby, I will wake up because I can feel the vibrations from these incidents. The vibrations from these incidents might also show up in my dream shortly before I wake up.

Moreover, It varies depending on the individual and their educational experiences/training. Some Deaf people have been taught to use hearing aids or other auditory amplification devices... Deaf people, who gain no or little benefit from auditory amplification, may tell you that they do not have sound in their dreams.

Hard of hearing people could hear sounds in dreams.
