I mean I love DT as much as the next guy, but Rod Smith would like to have a word with you.

DT is significantly better than Rod Smith. Rod Smith was an overachiever with one truly special season.

Blasphemy. Dt isn't even I the top 50 of all time list yet stat wise. Rod is 31 in all time yards not far behind Michael Irvin dt hasn't even passed 10k yards yet.

Dt may pass rod one day, but he isn't there yet.

We know which one is better at their best. Rod played longer than Irvin and is behind an Irvin who had his career cut short.

Rod Smith isn't even a better blocker.

Rod also didn't have the team around him Irvin had. Give me rod all day.

None of this is to knock dt, he's one of my favorite current players, but you are selling ole rod way short.

Irvin is one of the best blocking WR's ever and has lower stats than he should. He's also one of the best playoff performers ever.

Rod Smith is demonstrably worse at football than DT. Imagine what the offenses would look like if they had swapped. Rod Smith was a very good player. He was not a great one, sans maybe one or two years.

Irvin was a 1st round pick. Smith went undrafted.

I don't really think that has any impact on evaluations of them as players though. Like, did Smith have a better career than Irving compared to expectations based on draft position? Absolutely. But that doesn't make him a better player.

(Not necessarily saying who was better one way or the other, I just don't think draft position has anything to do with it)

Like, I'm not going to put Brady ahead of Manning because of where they were drafted. Brady probably has passed Manning now, but it has to do only with what they did on the field.

I think Smith proved himself quite well. I'd be hard pressed to say one was better than the other, but I believe they're on the same plane, and it's elevation is pretty high.

PS - what's up with using "Like" like you have?

No disagreement here. Although I really don't remember watching Irvin play, so I can't really comment too well on him.
