Back in the day, overbooking was necessary because the rules for making a reservation (and the restrictions) were far different. Today? Not so much. There's really no need to overbook flights, unless it's a specific route that has a high percentage of no-shows due to non-restrictive tickets being sold. Those are rare these days...

I didn't read the article - where was the flight to and from?

Chicago to Louisville. But it really wasn't a overbooking, but rather United need 4 seats to fly United employees to Louisville. I think it was another flight crew.
"We saw it…. the hussars let loose their horses. God, what power! They ran through the smoke and the sound was like that of a thousand blacksmiths beating with a thousand hammers

They rush on to the Swedes! They crash into the Swedish riters…. Overwhelm them! They crash into the second regiment - Overwhelmed! Resistance collapses, dissolves, they move forward as easily as if they were parading on a grand boulevard

I mean, sure, you'd pick up cholera and die on a trip to the coast. But at least you had your dignity.

I bet you would've gotten drug off a stage coach. Come to think of it, I don't know if you already have or not.

Even though they're hookers he still needs time for the alcohol and roofies to kick in.

I took a $200 voucher to take a later flight that was, I think, 4 hours later. No problem. Just called the person picking me up and told her to delay leaving the house.

Crazy to threaten and drag people off the flight though. That's going to cost well over $1000 in bad publicity, not to mention the potential legal jeopardy. Find them something else to barter with. United owns the United Center. How about using VIP Chicago Bulls tickets as barter for people to get off an overbooked flight.

Dave's idea of hookers is actually not a bad one for international flights where prostitution is legal - maybe offer a Mile High Cub voucher.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.
