You guys have any experience with security cams? We had the ADT guy try to sell us the world, but I'm thinking about just getting one of those Nest cams as they're relatively affordable. Any tips here?

The day I canned ADT was one of the happiest days in my life.
Too bad you don't have Comcast in your neighborhood. Our security system is pretty good.
I put some cams in my bedroom.
Honestly the NVR setups they have at Costco are fine, the IP camera technology has advanced enough where a cheaper unit like that works fine. Just run the CAT5E to your desired spots after the rest of the trades have done their work in your house as the NVR's have POE switches in them.
As for just a camera for your doorbell or something, get the Skybell. It runs on your wifi, 1080P live or recorded video, motion sensor to cloud and also has two way communication so you dont have to answer the door if you dont want. We have one and it's awesome.
you growing weed or something?
I just set up a Nest outdoor cam in favor of the Sam's club ones I had up. I'm very happy with the nest outdoor cam. Installation and setup were both very easy, the Nest Aware app is pretty damn good, remote viewing is extremely easy, and I like the feature where I can speak through the camera if needed. In fact, the UPS guy left a package for me that was signature required because I spoke to him over the camera and asked him to leave around the back of the house out of sight.
In short, I highly recommend the Nest cam. Getting a second one actually.
Thanks but this seems more involved than I was hoping for. Isn't Nest wireless?
Not yet. But there have been some burglaries and suspicious activity in my neighborhood.
Awesome - this is what I was hoping to hear. I think I'm going to pull the trigger. Any tips on models or setup or anything?
oh, you started by saying you talked to ADT and wanted security cameras so I thought you were looking for a good security camera setup. Yeah if all you'er looking for is a wireless camera the Nest or skybell will both work. I definitely would use or consider them as security cameras though., they are not.
Most of the thieves in our neighborhood don't seem to be that sophisticated. But that's a fair point. I think it would be more petty theft like stolen packages and car break-ins that I'm trying to prevent - if someone wants to burglarize my house they're probably going to find a way to do it.
