Default Baltimore Ravens release five-time Pro Bowler Elvis Dumervil

The Baltimore Ravens landed Elvis Dumervil four years ago when the Denver Broncos faxed in his contract minutes after the 4 p.m. deadline. Now, the Ravens are parting ways with the veteran pass rusher.

After former Ravens receiver Steve Smith reported the news, Dumervil confirmed his release on Twitter with a message to fans and the organization.

Dumervil missed eight games due to a foot injury last season, limiting him to three sacks in eight games. His numbers have fallen off each of the past two years following his 17-sack season in 2014.

He was set to count $8.4 million against the cap this season, but the Ravens will save $6 million by releasing him. It was the last year of his five-year deal.

For the Ravens, who had just $10.2 million in cap room before the move, it gives them a bit more to spend on free agents.

With Miller, Ray and Shaq on the roster...and all of the other needs we have to squeeze into limited cap space...why is Doom even considered an option for us? If we're going to sign an aging, injured pass rusher, just bring Ware back.

Him and his fax machine can sign elsewhere.

Is he considered an option for Denver? I dont think ive seen any media mention of him coming back here only that he was released.

I wasnt referring to the media. More towards you and the others in the other threads that have advocated an enjoyment for his return.

Yes, i would like to see him back in Denver but no i have not seen any reports they are even entertaining the idea. But i feel you, why would we want an aging injury prone QB as well. lol

Haha. People hating on Doom? His agent was tye one who screwed up and got fired. I would love him as depth. Shaq did nothing last season. Ware is just as injury prone if not more.

The defense struggled a lot last year but in run stoppage and disrupting the QB. Doom rushes the passer quite well, you can always sub him on running plays. Ware is done.

BS. Ware played a game hoping Elway wouldn't cut him in time and would owe him the full amount.

Elway put the ball in Doom's court and he fumbled it. He could have remained a Bronco if he REALLY wanted to. The guy was playing with fire, got burned, and bolted out of town. It was a pretty embarrassing situation when it happened, and I honestly don't want the guy back.
