Damn.
I'm okay with TS.
I dunno, I like the kid a lot (obviously) and not just because of his lineage (thought that really helps) He's got the ability to run well between the tackles, the speed to make people miss running to the outside, he's a good blocker in passing situations and one of the best route runners at the combine (even when factoring in the WR's) He can play RB, be kicked out into the slot, ect... He's dangerous and defenses have to account for him (which amounts to less people being sent after the QB)
I absolutely get that we need a tackle, but C-mac is one of those dangerous players that you just cannot pass up on. Even if we had to trade TS to get him, I'd say do it, this kid is the type of player you build a franchise around.
I would to all in on McCaffery as well.
I don't care if he is a RB, he is an offensive weapon. Put him in the slot, return kicks, use him as third down RB, put CJ and CM at RB at the same time and make the defense guess who is getting the ball, get creative.
I'd take McCaffery and one of the really good TEs and get a tackle later unless there's a tackle they have rated very highly who ends up slipping to them. Get some guys who can create mismatches on offense and worry about the o line later. Even if it means suffering theough another season with poor o line play.
Having said that, I learned a long time ago not to get my hopes up about Denver drafting a particular player. It always ends in disappointment.
The thing on the tackles in this draft, there are maybe at best 2 that deserve to be picked in the first round, if that... This pool is so weak, anyone we draft is going to disappoint. I'm with you, grab some offensive weapons, grab a tackle later in the draft and then hope we get lucky on the line. Worst case scenario, we'll go o-line heavy next year (which should be a deeper o-line pool)
Exactly. Blueprint: Let's improve our OL vastly via trade (and remaining salary cap room) for proven veterans, forget Romo's hype and likely bloated salary expectations, roll with our current QBs (and some cheap, veteran QB to be a 3rd stringer and experienced mentor), and draft a bunch of young and fast offensive/ST weapons (RBs, TEs, slot receivers, and DEFINITELY kick and punt returners(!)) to greatly help our young QBs. Result = SUCCESS.
For any other RB, NO. But at least one-third of why you are drafting him is for that purpose. The other two-thirds is as a situational RB (to complement CJ and Booker, not replace, at least for a few years) and as a slot/3rd receiver.
If we don't get CMac, I'd say let's get Switzer for the same reason, just without the situational RB component, in a much later round. That would remove the "first round" stigma, but I think the Broncos' return game has been so abysmal recently it merits significant investment.
I'm suddenly seeing a third OT mocked to us at 20. Garrett Bolles from Utah. Up till now it's been all about Cam Robertson and the guy from Wisconsin.
Is Bolles just a workout warrior who wowed at the combine?
He's athletic, but has a small frame, short legs and some question marks. He had high numbers in the 40, short shuttle and 3-cone.
He doesn't have a lot of strength and that could really hurt him against strong dominate edge rushers. I think the worst thing about him is if he isn't an immediate starter, he's 25...he's already going to have a shorter career because of that fact, if he takes a few years to build up his frame and get some strength he could be midway through his career before he's effective.
Basically, if he doesn't play day one, he could be a wasted draft pick especially in the first round. 20 is far too early to take him, though most have him going to the seahawks at #26.
