Default Kyle Shanahan interested in bringing Matt Schaub to SF

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...haub-to-49ers/

When Super Bowl LI comes to an end, Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will be leaving that job to become head coach of the 49ers.Among the first orders of business in his new role will be figuring out who will be the team’s quarterback in 2017. Colin Kaepernickis expected to opt out of his contract while Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder are set for unrestricted free agency, so the player who will fill that role is likely to come from elsewhere.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that current Falcons backup Matt Schaub may be in the mix. He’ll be a free agent in March and Schefter reports that Shanahan, who also coached Schaub with the Texans, is interested in bringing him along.

Schaub could serve as a bridge quarterback if the team drafts another quarterback in April. There are other options for the 49ers to explore on the quarterback front, Schaub’s experience with Shanahan could make him part of the team installing a new offense in Santa Clara this offseason under any circumstances.
Awe man, we missed out on an opportunity to bring Schwabby to Denver??!!!

    Should of hired Shanny!

Smart move. Why risk roster flexibility on "all in on Cousins," or hope a draft pick will pan out. This doesn't remove either possibility, gives some leverage in negotiation with Cousins, and give flexibility on draft day.

Now I kind of wish we would have hired Shanahan just to see Joel's head explode.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Definitely makes me regret Joseph less. You'd think watching Plummer get his dad fired and Schaub get Kubiak fired would've taught him a lesson about flame outs.
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. Jaded

The takeaway was actually 'don't draft Jay Cutler' when you have a quarterback on the roster that gets you 13-3 and into the final 4.

Plummer did all that, did he? And here I thought he just shredded Rod Smiths hips leading him into LBs. Then imploded all over Mile High and never recovered.

I've always thought of him as a roller coaster. 3 TDs one week, 3 INTs the next

By the way, I've always hate roller coasters

Weeee, we're 8-8! Til the playoffs, where there's no more crappy teams and the good ones feast on that. Hence his career 2-4 postseason record, the wins being:

1999 against the dregs of Dallas' last dynasty, where he barely completed half his passes for just over 200 yds and a pair of TDs and picks, but HIS D feasted on Aikman to the tune of completing LESS than 50% of his passes for LESS than 200 yds, 1 TD and 3 Ints (Dallas barely avoided a SHUTOUT on a TD with 4:37 left.)

2005 when Champ made a 14 pt play and the refs gave us 1st and G at the 1 with a phantom PI on a 40 yd deep post to Lelie.

Those are literally the high points of Jake Plummers entire career. What a terrible loss....

He might bring in David Carr too...as a tackling dummy.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Plummer was known in some circles as "The Evangelist" because he could make 70,000 people yell "Jesus Christ" in unison.

Kaep wpuld be a good fit in the west coast offense with shanny. But they could get a new shiny QB in draft now.

Any remaining doubt Kaep's worn out his welcome in SF vanished last September. Whether he'd be an asset has gone from "debatable" to "moot."
