Schofield was bettwr than garcia. Which the left side of line was a mess. And i am curious if garcia deficiencies hindered okung. Like he knew he had to help holim if he could. That being said okung needs to be taking a big cut down from $11m to stay. Cant promise him that for 2 years for his production. If he has to walk then bengals LT who is 35 would be a nice guy to chase and focus on getting OL in round 1.
Using spotrac.com to eatimate salaries.
I think if okung would take $8m he can stay. Sign zieter (OG) to $10m( make him #3 highest paid). And take Poe or short for $8M or hankins for $6m (NT and top 10 DT make $9M). I would take chris baker(DE) for $8m a season.
This saves $3 on okung which puts us up to $36M. Sign zieter poe and baker that is $26M. Leaving $10M for rookies and fill up rest of roster. Cut sambrailo and save $500k and $500k dead. Cut stepehson and save $3M with $2m dead which would give us $13.5m in cap space. Plenty to extend paradis mcmanus webster and maybe some other cheap guys like jordan Taylor zaire anderson or todd davis.
Baker and hankins are my low profile guys who could be had for good deals by elway but are key players on their defenses.. Elway may be able to work magic and get cambell for a good deal too.
Which isn't saying much.
Very possible, especially since Garcia's such a liability in protection. It's hard to beat the first step of top edge rushers when you always have to watch out of the corner of your eye to see if the guy next to you's getting beat by a stunt or delayed blitz.
I still think Okungs deal was a sucker bet Elway never intended to pick up beyond this season: "Offering" him a big future salaries via club option was just a negotiating tactic to lower his CURRENT salary, which is the only one we were ever going to pay. With his poor performance this year, we may never know, because unless he restructures a BIG pay cut, there's no way he stays. There are plenty of FAs who can provide that level of production for half as cap space.
With that in mind, I'm leery of relying on a starting LT who'll turn 36 just before the playoffs, but if Spotrac's right about him being the top FA OT I doubt Elway enters that bidding war in the first place. Likewise the draft: The next time Elway drafts an OT in the 1st will BE the first, and quality LTs don't hang around til #41 (which is the highest line pick Elway's ever made, on Franklin at RT.) Especially since everyone keeps saying this is an awful draft for OTs anyway; the many teams who need one will snatch up the few relatively good ones fast. Probably before #20, but DEFINITELY before #50 or #83.
We could always trade up, but there's the same old philosophical problem with that.
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. Jaded

Didn't we get Baker his rookie year? He was very solid in the few Redskins games I watched.
Baker spent one season with Denver but wasted away behind legendary Broncos' luminaries LeKevin Smith and (Josh McDaniels high school teammate) Bob Peterson (or whatever the **** his name was).

My Draft Wish list:
OG- Dion Dawkins

RB- Joe Mixon
ILB- Kendall Beckwith
EDGE- Rueben Foster
OT- Garett Bolles
WR- Zay Jones
Just a wish list not a prediction. Will be interesting to see if any of them wind up on the team.
I really like Haason Riddick as well. Great edge rusher but he projects as an ILB at the next level. Good motor, takes on blockers, side line to side line speed, and good pursuit. I'm not sure how he'll be in coverage though. An NFL mock had him projected in the 3rd but I see him climbing to the 2nd with his versatility.
nfldraftscout has him as the #31 overall prospect, but behind Cunningham, McKinley, and Williams (outside linebacker prospects).
