Default Brock Osweiler apparently doesn’t want to emulate Tom Brady

After four years spent behind Peyton Manning (but seven games in front of him), Brock Osweiler left Denver. Now free from Peyton’s shadow, Osweiler has found himself in Tom Brady’s, sort of.

Playing for a head coach who once tutored #Tommy, Osweiler doesn’t really want to hear about the long-time quarterback of the Patriots.

“They refer to Tom Brady a lot,” Osweiler said Friday regarding coach Bill O’Brien and offensive coordinator George Godsey, via the Houston Chronicle. “With all due respect to Coach O’Brien and Coach Godsey, I’ve told them I’m going to be me. I’m not here to be a puppet, if you will. I’m going to be who I am and believe in what I bring to the table every day.”

On one hand, the desire to be his own man is admirable. On the other hand, he should welcome the opportunity to emulate Tom Brady.

If Osweiler plays well, none of this will matter. If he doesn’t, his refusal to embrace doing things the way Brady did them could make O’Brien regret the sight-unseen transaction that brought Osweiler to Houston for $38 million fully guaranteed.

Yeah, no wonder Oz doesn't want to be like him. This is like that OTHER thing happening in November: I don't know who to root against, the self-important former Broncos backup, or yet another Belicheat protege who doesn't know how to win without the NE* chea—er, "system."
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. Jaded

Good for you, Brent, **** Tom Brady and his soft, plush and cushy ball fetish.

He sort of had that attitude with Manning too.

I believe the score is Brady: 0, Oz: 1.

Now we can go all jaded ex lover here, or we can thank Brent for his time/contributions towards a super bowl win, and then give him the finger for taking the $$$$$$$ and choosing Houston.....which in turn likely helped us ink miller, and let Elway work it and score Lynch for 5 years and tiny $. Pretty sweet deal really. We get our cake and eat it too boys...and if Oz wants to talk smack on deflate boy, you go Brent. See you on a Sunday night in Denver.

Seriously though, that's a pretty good take. Oz bought precious time for Manning to get healthy enough to win a SB, and did it by helping us beat BOTH leading competitors for playoff homefield (does anyone think we'd be the reigning Champs if Manning had limped into Foxboro for an AFCCG? Bearing in mind that we were a doinked PAT OR tipped 2PAT from OT at HOME?)

What Oz didn't do is develop much in 4 years of sitting on the bench watching Mannings masochistic work ethic hog every first team practice snap. We still would've had to pay him starting QB money to keep him though; now that's Houstons problem. Meanwhile, our QB guru head coach has a talented high draft pick to mold into whatever image he likes, we'll probably start seeing the results by next year, and will pay him peanuts until we know one way or the other what we've got. Y'know, as opposed to coughing up $70M in guaranteed cap space for a guy with 7 starts.
