Default President Obama has 'discussed' being NBA owner, White House says

Much has been made of what might be next for President Barack Obama after he leaves the White House in January. According to press secretary Josh Earnest, becoming an NBA owner might be an option.

Earnest said Wednesday that the president, well known for being a big fan of Chicago sports teams, has "discussed" being part of an ownership group for an NBA franchise. Earnest added that Obama would pursue the opportunity "potentially ... under the right circumstances."

Obama, 54, has previously expressed an interest in becoming an NBA owner, telling GQ Magazine in November that he "absolutely" would want to be part of an NBA ownership group.

"I have fantasized about being able to put together a team and how much fun that would be," he said in the GQ interview. "I think it'd be terrific."

I would love to see him own a team. It would be pretty cool because too often our presidents kind of fade into the background, and I think that's unfortunate.

They aren't out in the spotlight like owning an NBA team, but they still seem to do a lot of great things such as charities. Clinton and Bush 41 with Haiti and Katrina. Bush 43 with disease relief in Africa and Wounded Warriors.

How would he have access to hundreds of millions of dollars? He must have it if he is considering ownership.

I don't think they fade into the background, they typically play large roles in charitable organizations, etc. I do feel they should 100% disappear from political life and refrain from getting into it.

I think President Obama could be a great team owner. So, is the speculation that he would try to purchase the Bulls? I didn't realize there was any possibility the Bulls were for sale. I don't think I'd like to see him as an owner anywhere other than Chicago, it just doesn't seem like he'd want to own a team away from his "hometown".

He's considering putting together an ownership group, not being the sole owner.

Even still, he would have to fairly wealthy to be part of an ownership group.

That seems like what most people would do, right? Like if Elway ever wanted a team I think he would put a group of investors together.
