Default Homeland Security warns Windows PC users to uninstall Quicktime

The Department of Homeland Security and a top cybersecurity firm have advised Windows PC users to uninstall Apple's Quicktime video player immediately after two new bugs were found in the software.

In a blog post published Thursday, the Trend Micro security firm said that Apple was no longer issuing security updates for Quicktime for Windows, despite the presence of the bugs. Trend Micro said the bugs could be used to launch attacks on PCs if users visit a compromised web page or open a tained file.

Trend Micro said it was not aware of any cases where the bugs had been exploited by hackers. The warning does not apply to Quicktime on Mac operating systems.

Probably a giant conspiracy by the government to get back at Apple.

Cue the Mac users coming out of the woodwork to smugly suggest how safe Macs are, not realizing this an Apple product is creating the vulnerability.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Cue the PC master race to smugly mock Apple users for hackers exploiting a program made by the company for PC.

FWIW while we have Apple users I don't think we have Apple zealots here. We do have PC and Android zealots though, as your post shows.

In short it's a proprietary video player. While it has a video format it plays on Macs it's pretty useful for recording user sessions/creating demos (desktop activities) and doing the same thing Sound Recorder does on PC (recording meetings from your laptop, etc.)

From my point of view there's really no use for it on PC other than being able to play its video format which can either be converted by 3rd party tools or played with other players - when I'm on PC it makes more sense to use VLC or something. But others may have other takes. I did have it installed I noticed but can't recall ever using it.

It was never the case the Apple products couldn't be hacked or viruses developed - they had (have) such a small market share it wasn't worth it to the hackers.

Exactly. And Linux is just as bad, so that crowd shouldn't be snug either.
"We saw it…. the hussars let loose their horses. God, what power! They ran through the smoke and the sound was like that of a thousand blacksmiths beating with a thousand hammers

They rush on to the Swedes! They crash into the Swedish riters…. Overwhelm them! They crash into the second regiment - Overwhelmed! Resistance collapses, dissolves, they move forward as easily as if they were parading on a grand boulevard

Please. I've used Linux Mint or Ubuntu on my computers for the last 9 years and have never even had a virus or installed a virus software.
