Default OrangeHoof Post-Combine Mock (Fanspeak w/CBS Board) with trades

Since Fanspeak already adds in what they think our compensation picks will be and it's becoming clearer who we might be replacing, time to take my first crack at a Broncos mock draft. I used the CBS Big Board from Fanspeak that is their first post-combine mock.

Immediately, the Broncos hear from Kubiak's old team, the Houston Texans who offer to trade down from their #22 pick if we'll give them our first (#31) and 2nd (#32). I decided to try this and see if a stud OT might fall to us. They didn't.

So, at #22, the Chiefs came knocking. I agreed to send them #22 for their first (#28), 3rd (#28) and 4th (#28). There were two guys I almost took at #22 and they were both still there at #28. So I took one:

    28: R1P28
    RB EZEKIEL ELLIOTT
    OHIO STATE

Incidentally, the Chiefs chose OG Vadal Alexander of LSU. I had no choice in the 2nd but I had three in the third so I used two to move up and snag the best TE in the draft:

    69: R3P6
    TE HUNTER HENRY
    ARKANSAS

With the first compensation pick, I chose:

    99: R3P36
    DE SHAWN OAKMAN
    BAYLOR

Assuming we cut Manning and keep Osweiler, we need to groom a backup with starting potential - one who can run bootlegs like Kubiak desires. His favorite receiver was also available.

    127: R4P28
    QB DAK PRESCOTT
    MISSISSIPPI STATE

    136: R4P37
    WR DE'RUNNYA WILSON
    MISSISSIPPI STATE

Finally, the remaining spots are to provide depth in the middle of the defense and the o-line to give us more options and perhaps find a special player like we found with Malik and Trevathan:

    144: R5P5
    ILB NICK VIGIL
    UTAH STATE

    219: R6P41
    G JOE DAHL
    WASHINGTON STATE

    226: R7P7
    S T.J. GREEN
    CLEMSON

    233: R7P14
    ILB JOSH FORREST
    KENTUCKY

    251: R7P32
    C MIKE MATTHEWS
    TEXAS A&M

I didn't find the OT I craved so I am hoping Clady returns and stays healthy while finding a RT among the various choices we have left.

Who could argue against such detailed criticism?

So the Broncos go up to 22 for no reason at all and then come back to 28 to pick a running back?

Well. I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.

Not at all crazy about it and a lot of it doesnt make any sense. Even if you are taking a QB Dak should not be that guy despite the rumors that Denver is interested in him. Elliot was a good pick but ive done some mocks on Fanspeak and still got him at 32. Then, you take a TE with the second pick when we already have a young TE drafted last year coming back this year. Just a strange strange range of selections here.

This part of what I don't take the time to type out.
I actually like Elliot a lot, but no OL on the first 3 picks, with a RB in the first to boot? That's what I don't like.

Your draft is bad and you should feel bad.

Nostratimmy has no time for mock drafts, but if he did he wouldn't flop around in the 1st round and then take an RB. Please feel free to share yours though.

Fanspeak is fun to play with, but so unrealistic. I dont think I ever end up with any less than 15 picks after all the ridiculous trade offers I get. Never base an actual draft on this

But it is better than people who do their own mocks and cherry-pick players a round later than they'll probably go in real-life. Any fool could do that. How many folks are drafting some sorry-ass LB because his name is "Scooby"??

Scooby Wright was the best linebacker in the country before he got hurt. I don't particularly advocate Denver taking a linebacker in the first round, but Wright is a hell of a player.
