This was discussed by many people..and they all say that Apple "retaining" the software is an absurd idea. Can't be done as it't not a piece of paper that you can stick in a locked safe. If it would to be programmed, it absolutely would NOT be 'secure' and only with Apple. That's a known fact, and the govt trying to say 'yeah, but you keep it'... is just words that mean nothing.

They've discussed that there are MANy.. MANY MANY MANY apps and programs that encrypt everything. Our lives and livelihood is built around encryption. It has to be with today's technology and digital world. The mere suggestion that Apple is somehow doing something different that EVERYONE isn't doing, is absurd. Apple is NOT the only one that uses encryption, and if they actually did have a 'second to none' encryption (which isn't true)...then they absolutely would be stupid to write something to crack said encryption.

No encryption was cracked in this case. Their encryption is public/open (AES 256, using SHA-1 hash), it's not proprietary. Anyone with the correct computing power and/or thousands of years could break it.
I will say it again. This isn't about encryption. We aren't talking about locking shit in a vault and throwing away the key. We are talking about how to get the key. Not how to drill into the side of the safe. Apple was NEVER asked to break the encryption.
