Default Broncos use low round tender on CJ

    http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci...k-c-j-anderson

The Broncos will use a low-round tender on restricted free agent running back C.J. Anderson, according to an NFL source.

The tender will give him $1.671 million for 2016 and give the Broncos the right to match any offer sheet Anderson signs with another team. But if they choose to not match, they will not receive any compensation.
Can match any offer, but receive nothing in return if he walks. I freaking hate this offseason.

Yeah, I posted this in the Marshall thread. I always thought we'd go first round for Marshall, second round for CJ, and instead they went a round lower for each. They're gambling a little but if it works out, they get these guys back for $2 million less total than they would have paid with the higher tenders. I trust they know what they're doing.

He's not going to get BIG big money... so it's just a way not to guarantee a BIG raise by putting a 2nd round tender...which is something like 2.4 million per season. If he does get a big offer, then he isn't a player the Broncos can't replace or do without.

Love me some CJ, but this is what he's worth. If he leaves, he is replaceable.

I don't hate this because of 1 specific player possibly leaving, it's the number that we could be losing. When we went back to back, we returned 19 out of 22 starters. Just hoping we don't lose too many.

I like CJ but he would not be a huge loss.

Not shocked at all. CJ is a part time player and not a three down back. Always seemed to tire easily or was hurt. It's beginning to look like this will be the real rebuilding year for an offense that Kubiak really wanted to run. Couldn't do so with Peyton, so they are a year behind schedule. Wouldn't be surprised at all if the only returning backs are Bibbs and Thompson with a veteran FA signing. Well played by JE and company. Too many high cost priorities, especially if they have to pony up elite money for Osweiler.

This really irks me... if we lose CJ, I'm going to be very irked. Want to see what he can show in this system fully healthy for an entire season.

I'm not worried. Kubes has a knack for taking low-round picks or UDFAs and making them stars. Just have to trust there's another guy like that out there.

Hate this; CJ's not as replaceable as everyone seems to think (e.g. name ANY other RB who produced more the last half of EITHER of the last two seasons.) He just gets hurt a lot and suffers from the same awful blocking that's figuratively and literally crippled EVERY Denver runner AND passer for the last DECADE. I'd be somewhat surprised if none of the other 31 teams pay him what he's worth, and equally so if he doesn't bust out and become a regular Pro Bowler wherever he lands.

It is what it is; hopefully the offers will be less than what a 2nd round tender costs, because if Elway thought CJ worth that he would've DONE that and avoided the issue (or at least gotten one of this years 2nd round picks in exchange for CJ.)
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. Jaded

But the fact that he gets hurt a lot is an issue. He always seems to be limping around after plays and he really doesn't seem capable of being an every down back. He's a nice piece to have, but he can certainly be replaced.

    I doubt CJ goes anywhere.

He pulls himself after plays and I do not think he has gone a full drive.

He is not dependable as a #1 but is a good co-#1

Ravage probably thinks he's underpaid. I mean, it's not the market rate and all.
