The context of his career will get him in. He never had a consistent QB, never played with another skill player that was elite, or even great. Yet he was pound for pound the best WR for a long time.
I would probably put TD in the HoF. CJ would probably get placed in the HoF. Let's be honest, he's leaving with numbers to put up. As Davii points out, he does have shit to prove. On the other hand, it's a safe assumption he would put up those numbers.
The flip side is that at his best Calvin Johnson might literally be the best. Who else was jumping over three guys and getting scores? Who else was running around doing so much with so little? 1,964 yards is a ******* astronomical number.
It's a tough one. If he doesn't get in I couldn't fault the voters, but he should get in.
Again... I don't t hink stats are the only thing you must consider whenit comes to the NFL. Baseball is ALLL stats, and only stats. It's a statistical game. But football is different. There is no doubt that Calvin Johnson is one of the greatest WRs to play the game, period. Stats or no. It doesn't take much to simply watch how dominating he was, to see it on the field.
