Default Super Bowl Edition - Broncos/Panthers, press conferences, articles, etc.

Clete Blakeman will be Super Bowl 50 referee, good news for the Broncos?

The NFL chose eighth year official Clete Blakeman as the head referee for Super Bowl 50. Blakeman will lead a seven-man crew of highly-graded officials.

Since 2010, when Blakeman became a referee, the Broncos have a 5-0 record in games where he was the head man. The Panthers have been 2-2 during the same span.

Blakeman has officiated five career playoff games. He has only manned one this year, the Green Bay-Arizona divisional game that had the botched coin toss in overtime.

Default 'One-sided' action on Panthers helps move Super Bowl 50 line

The Carolina Panthers opened as clear favorites Sunday over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. The public money has been backing them ever since.

"I can't remember a more one-sided betting Super Bowl," Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading for William Hill US, told ESPN in an email.

The Westgate was the Las Vegas sportsbook with the highest opening line for Carolina (-5.5) -- with most other books opening with the Panthers favored between 3.5 points and 4.5 points. Westgate's opening number was posted at 9:06 p.m. ET Sunday and lasted a mere 13 minutes before several four-figure wagers on the Broncos pushed the line down to Carolina -4, which was the Vegas consensus line on Sunday night.

Default Cam Newton says he's not changing anything to satisfy critics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton doesn't plan to change who he is or what he says just because he's preparing for the Super Bowl and all the hype that comes with it.

Newton's response to critics he'll face heading into the Feb. 7 title game against the Denver Broncos will be the same it has been since he entered the NFL.

"I've said this since day one," Newton said. "I'm an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven't seen nothing that they can compare me to."

Why do you think we're scared of the things comparable to you we've seen, Cam? Are you worried you're like some of scary things we've seen, or that the things like you we've seen are scary? It's OK, Cam: None of the things like you I've seen are scary. For example, Namath and McMahon strutting around like Gods gift to football before they'd even PLAYED the SB wasn't scary.

It is, however, very ANNOYING that criticizing you for the same reason they were criticized is "because [you're] African-American." BECAUSE that's crap.

from an article after the Broncos beat Carolina in 2012

Peyton Manning made sure Fox's return to Carolina was successful, throwing for 301 yards and a touchdown, and the defense turned in a dominating performance to lead the Broncos to a 36-14 rout.
    AND

Manning had plenty of help from his teammates.

Linebacker Miller harassed Cam Newton all day and Trindon Holliday returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown as the Broncos (6-3) won for the fifth time in six weeks. The Broncos sacked Newton seven times, including once for a safety, and Miller pressured him into an interception Tony Carter returned 40 yards for a score.

Less we discuss that the next 10 days, the better. They're clearly a VASTLY better team (particularly among Cams protectors) and reminding them and Cam we got a safety AND half a dozen more sacks is just classic bulletin board material: "They think we were just a speed bump on the way to their LAST SB?! We'll show them!" I still prefer the "keep telling them how awesome they are and how hopelessly outclassed we are" approach that worked great in '97.

'One-sided' action on Panthers helps move Super Bowl 50 line

"Over 80 percent of the early money and tickets are on the Panthers -4.5, and we are still writing tickets at that ratio," John Avello, the race and sports operations director at Wynn and Encore, said in an email. "I could see us going higher (possibly to 5.5, but even to 6)."

On Wednesday morning, the consensus line shifted to Carolina -5, as the vast majority of public money has been backing the Panthers, including several five-figure wagers at the Westgate. By Wednesday evening, the consensus line at Vegas sportsbooks was Carolina -5.5, with the lowest lines at the Wynn (-5) and Treasure Island (-4.5)."

First of all - I DOUBT any Panther players are reading anything on Broncos Forums. Second, I know they are a much better offensive team, but IMO, the Broncos are a better defensive team now than they were in 2012.

Apparently, there is no question about whether Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will play, such that there was.

Via Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review, Davis told reporters today that he was recovering nicely after surgery to put a plate and “11 or 12 screws” in his broken right arm.

“I fully expect to play,” Davis said.

That’s no surprise considering what the 32-year-old linebacker has gone through already, having rehabbed from three torn ACLs to play at his highest level yet. Davis earned a Pro Bowl invite this year, the first of his career.

But now that he’s this close to achieving an even greater goal, he’s not going to let something as simple as a broken arm hold him back.

Looks like press conferences will start shortly. I have on ESPN and they said they would carry Peyton's press conference.

They just said on ESPN that Kubes will also be speaking. You can see them on above link
