Default Practice / press conference notes - week 12 (Patriots week)

Might as well start this now, since the big news that people were waiting on is coming today:

Chris Mortensen ‏@mortreport 18m18 minutes ago

Brock Osweiler will make another start for the Broncos against the Patriots on Sunday night, per team sources. More on NFL Insiders, 2:30 ET

Troy Renck ‏@TroyRenck 15m15 minutes ago

Kubiak will talk to media in a few minutes. Expectation is that Osweiler starts and Manning gets more time to heal from injuries. #Broncos

Lindsay Jones ‏@bylindsayhjones 13m13 minutes ago

Naming Brock the starter for this week was something Gary Kubiak had to do. I'm sure Peyton Manning didn't like it, but it's the right call.

Not sure why this is surprising news that Brock gets the nod.

That Peyton is going to Charlotte for second opinion suggests foot is still an issue. Plantar fascia tears are difficult.

I agree with OS starting, but my preference would have been for Kubes not to announce that - keep hoodie guessing who they need to prepare for.

    From a medical website:
    Treatment

It may take 3 to 12 months for your plantar fascia to heal completely. Treatment can help your foot heal faster. We recommend using a number of treatment approaches simultaneously, including home treatments and medical treatments. It is important that you continue treatment until you have been pain-free for at least 3 months.

The majority of people with plantar fasciitis recover within 3 to 9 months without the need for more aggressive treatment. In rare cases (less than 1%), surgical treatment may be considered.
Obviously, with the best quality intensive treatment, it wouldn't take 9 months, but no way Manning is going to be healed in 1 week either. Probably not 2 weeks. He might want to play, but he probably wouldn't be any more effective than he was against the Chiefs.

He can argue all he wants. We all saw that he couldn't throw at all off that foot with the injury. That's not just a 1 or 2 week recovery.

While I get people were waiting for the announcement, I'm sure that Bellicheat was working under the assumption that they would face brock, so I don't think it gives us much of an edge not to just come out and say it.

Granted, the offenses are different under each QB, but I don't think it's been terribly difficult to game plan for PM as of late. I personally don't mind. I don't think Kubes wanted a media storm of who's going to start and helps the team be a little more focused on the game plan. Plus there's not a ton of film on Brock for BB to go off of.

I agree. I doubt Belichick would have been up nights trying to figure out who to plan for this week. The positive of nipping it in the bud today, along with Brock having a whole week without those questions over his head, outweigh the potential negative of tipping our hand to the Pats.

If I was Bill I'd prepare for Brock and if Manning played I'd consider it a bonus.

The only real difference in game-planning for belicheat is which poison to use. Laxative or amphetamine.

#Broncos Brandon Marshall had lisfranc surgery done by Dr. Anderson, same specialist Manning seeing. "He's best foot doctor in the country."

I hope Dr Anderson told him to take the rest of the season off.

I don't think the Pats are as good as their record indicates. And I think deep down Hoodie knows it. Very vulnerable right now.
