The matchup of five former No. 1 draft choices rotating along the Rams' 4-3 defensive front caused nightmares for the transitional Seattle offensive line. Pete Carroll must have sensed the concern after a preseason game in which the Denver Broncos sacked Seahawks quarterbacks seven times. The next week, Carroll moved second-year right tackle Justin Britt to left guard and promoted 2014 undrafted Garry Gilliam to right tackle and gave unproven Drew Nowak the start at center.

He wanted athletic blockers to match up against the Rams' athleticism.
