Default Report: Floyd Mayweather used WADA-banned IV before Manny Pacquiao fight

LAS VEGAS -- On the eve of his record-breaking megafight with Manny Pacquiao on May 2, pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather took an intravenous injection of saline and vitamins that was banned under World Anti-Doping Agency guidelines, according to a report by SB Nation on Wednesday.

Three weeks after the fight, Mayweather received an exemption from the United States Anti-Doping Agency, the report said. However, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett said USADA does not have authorization to grant an exemption. Bennett said only the commission, which was not notified of the exemption until after it was given, can give an athlete an exemption.

Although the substances contained in the IV were not banned by WADA, whose standards USADA says it follows, the fact that they were given intravenously was not allowed.

So the substance isn't banned just the way it was given. And the US governing body gave an exemption. Seems like much ado about nothing here.

Not necessarily. ..it affects the way he cuts weight and rehydrates. It gives him an advantage other fighters don't have...ask Jose Aldo.
It might explain why he's always fighter smaller dudes.

Mayweather fights guys that are so young in the sport, that they don't have experience, OR... guys that used to be great, but well past their prime. I think he has to be the MOST over-rated boxer I've ever seen, and don't think for a moment that he's one of the greats. Maybe top 30.

Whatever that fight was a joke. A total rip off of the fans. Put an asterisk by his name along with all the other cheaters in sports-The patriots, lance Armstrong etc
