    Default agap's automotive thread q and a

I actually have a question. I just replaced the evap canister on my 07 impala. I started the car and the check engine light is still on. I already tried the gas cap and this is an evap leak diagnosis. Do you have to drive for awhile before the light goes off or do you have to reset somehow? If the latter, how? I don't see how I could have messed up the install and a gear head friend of mine did the diagnosis. I'd ask him but I am pretty sure I have been getting on his nerves so I want to wait a couple days in calling him about it. Anyone have a suggestion? Serious replies only and thanks for reading this post

Take it to an auto parts store and have them clear the codes that are making the CEL come on.

My check engine light has been on for two years now. Whatever.

Well, nothing that you can do about it anyway...

Yo SR: I posted this in the Ask Agap thread re: my check engine light coming back on. What do you think?

The car has two sensors - one pre and one post catalytic converter. The weird thing is it's throwing the same code. Do you think I should replace it again? Or, maybe my idiot mechanic friend replaced the wrong one?

There is a smell from the tail pipe as well, if you think that makes any difference. Gas like, but not really if that makes sense.
PS - I'm not a gear head, but am pretty handy around automobiles. I do know that the catalytic converter won't make the CEL turn on.

What's the code say? If you're smelling gas you're possibly running rich and could throw a code for that. If the cat was bad your pre-cat O2 sensor wouldn't be throwing a code. If your pre-cat O2 sensor is throwing a code for a rich condition then there's your next step.

If you're lucky Agap, you may just need a new gas cap.

I'll have it checked again and let you know. I'm pretty sure it's the same code, but I don't remember exactly what the code read. I have your # - can I text you once I find out?
