The Colorado men's basketball team will be without one of its top players for a while.

On Thursday, Buffaloes head coach Tad Boyle confirmed that senior Xavier Johnson has a torn left Achilles' tendon. Johnson was injured about two weeks ago in a workout, Boyle said, and had surgery last week.

"These are tough injures, but surgery went well," Boyle said. "The doctors are very optimistic."

Boyle said it's fair to say Johnson will not be ready for the start of the season in November, but said, "That doesn't mean he won't be ready at some point.
