    Default Dallas signs Collins

    Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 33m

Here's the deal on La'el Collins deal with Dallas: Cowboys fully guaranteed the 3-year, $1.65 million deal, per source. Fully guaranteed.

    Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 38m

Cowboys have signed former LSU OL La'el Collins, as @NFLCharean reported. A potential first-rounder as an undrafted free agent. To Dallas.

Wish Broncos would have pursued this.

At least his travel will be relatively short when he has to return to LA for his murder trial.

    He's innocent.

Yeah I sort of wished the Broncos tried to get him as well. I don't know this guys whole story but he seems innocent from the little I have heard. The Broncos OL is going to be a real mess again I'm afraid.

I'm sure there 31 other teams who wouldn't have minded having a guy with his talent as a UDFA as well. We can't just get whoever we want because we are the Denver Broncos. Sometimes other teams get guys too. Dems just the breaks.

Denver should have spent a 7th to secure this guy if they were serious about win now mode.

He wouldn't have signed. I think what he did was premeditated. An UDFA can make as much as a 3rd round draft pick if they play for 4 years. I think he deliberately scared teams off prior to the draft by saying he wouldn't sign if he wasn't drafted in the first 3 rounds so he could go sign where he wanted, or re-enter next year and be a 1st round draft pick.

Personally, I don't think he's really out of the woods until the killer is found and a paternity test is done.

Paternity test was done. Collins wasn't the father.

Did you really have to go and make me look stupid like that?

That doesn't necessarily mean he knew he wasn't the father....or did he?

For all we know Denver tried to land him, in the end Collins got to choose who he played for. I just don't know if his agent is as stupid as we think, he's eligible for an extension in two years from now so this could turn out pretty well for Collins.

Their line really doesn't need the help, but it doesn't hurt.

It almost seems orchestrated doesn't it? I'll bet I can guess who was Collins' favorite NFL team.

If the Broncos had wasted a 7th on Collins, it would have thwarted Collins' negotiating position. He could not have signed with another NFL club because Denver would have his rights. Denver could have then held his rights hostage and traded them later if Collins refused to sign. Kinda surprised nobody did this, not even the Seahawks or the Patriots.

Congrats, Cowboys. You stole a bonus first-rounder.

It was a bluff, but it worked. He wouldn't have been eligible to re-enter the draft next year.

I think the fact that he didn't have the wherewithal to clear his name on this biggest week of his life is the biggest red flag in the world and I wouldn't waste a draft pick on him under any circumstances. Plus, it's not like there would have been any trade market because any other team could have used a late round pick on him too.

I just don't see this as a missed opportunity - I see it as a smart front office doing their due diligence and avoiding risk.

Here's a thought. Tyron Smith and a 2016 first round pick (just for starters) to Minnesota for AP.

Minnesota improves the line, Collins moves in at LT. Everyone happy.
