Default Fanspeak Mock - Who showed up at 28?

I did a mock at Fanspeak this morning using the CBS Sports big board. I'm expecting the regular choices when whose name appears as still on the board? - Kevin White, WR, WVU.

I tried to trade down but couldn't find an acceptable deal so I went ahead and took him. OK, I don't see WR as a big need, particularly to use a first-rounder on, but a consensus Top 10 pick dropping to 28 is just too good to overlook.

What it did was make me rethink this draft and the post-Manning future. I took ILB Denzel Perryman with the second-rounder and then realized Bryce Petty was still there at 3-28. Petty strikes me as more of a Kubiak QB than Osweiler.

In the 4th, I took an undersized TE I hope we get if we don't draft Max Williams. Then filled out the rest of the draft with OL help and roster depth.

I don't think there's a chance in hell that Kevin White really falls to #28 but it did get me thinking that maybe this upcoming draft should be about transitioning to a Kubiak team from a Manning team.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

    White would be a steal, and the other two. . . . . . .

Btw did you happen to look at any offensive lineman?

I did but the ones I liked were never available at the right spot, although Andrus Peat was there if I didn't want White. Cameron Erving was already taken.

Peat might be as big of a steal as White.

You're freaking me out with this "Cameron not there at 28" stuff. He's become my hands down favourite for us in the first and all the mocks I see say he'll be there for us at 28. Stop Freakin me out!

When you think about it this mock has Peat and White still there at #28, which would make fine consolation prizes.

FWIW, most of the mocks I see don't have Erving available at 28 any more.

If I were Elway, I'd go into this draft with 3-4 names of guys I want at #28 and if none of them are there, I'd try to trade down for a high 2nd and a high 3rd.

Isn't that what the Broncos did when they drafted Wolfe?

The Broncos traded twice that year and didn't get close to the top of the 3rd, they moved down six spots for a late 4 and moved down another 6 or 7 to get that same late 4 pick into the top half of round 4.

Trading down sucks ass, I can't believe it's so popular, and the FO doesn't seem to be very good at it anyway.

Yeah, they did something like that. I don't remember if it helped is much, but getting Wolfe in the 2nd was really good value.

That extra 4th round pick turned out to be Omar Bolden, the picks they traded turned out to be Chandler Jones and Doug Martin, iirc. I believe both have played in the ProBowl.

On the other hand the 4th round pick they used on a C form Baylor that's no longer in the league would have been enough to move up and get the player they wanted, David DeCastro. He's also pretty good at a position of huge need atm.

Ouch. I'd love to have Jones.

Check that, it might have been Hightower, a 3-4 ILB. I'm just going by memories of my past rants. Point is the Broncos twice traded good prospects for a career backup.

You think Wolfe is a career backup, or are you talking about Bolden?

No, they didn't. They traded picks that wound up turning into good players. There is no guarantee the draft unfolds the same way if we don't trade those picks, and no guarantee that we take those players with those picks if we keep them.

There are just WAY too many variables involved to call a trade of draft picks bad because the draft picks we traded turned into good players.
